Marvel explained last week why they didnโ€™t have a female villain in Iron Man 3, and weโ€™re gonna be honest with you, it was a pretty poor excuse. Although the villain in the original script was a woman, this got changed because the company believed that they would lose toy sales if the villain was a woman.

Luckily all this is slowly changing, with Cate Blanchett taking up the antagonist role in the new Thor movie, but when Krysten Ritter heard about the toy scandal, she wasnโ€™t impressed.

โ€œReally? Oh my god, I didnโ€™t know that. Girls can sell toys!โ€ Krysten yelled, and the audience cheered.

Krysten plays Jessica Jones, who is a former superhero dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder. The Netflix series has been critically acclaimed, and recently won a Peabody award, which recognises achievement in television entertainment. Itโ€™s the first TV series to star a female Marvel superhero.

And now sheโ€™s even thinking about proposing a Jessica Jones toy!

โ€œI donโ€™t know if there is [a Jessica Jones toy] yet, but there should beโ€ฆ and I bet it would sell huge and Iโ€™m going to make some phone calls right after this,โ€ she said.
