Blair Waldorf and Serena Van der Woodsen go together like Chanel and Prada: perfectly (that is, when they’re not in fierce competition with each other). So a world in which Leighton Meester and Blake Lively didn’t play their iconic, career-defining Gossip Girl roles is simply too wrong to fathom.
But now, it’s come out that another very famous actress had her heart set on the role of Serena Van der Woodsen: Jennifer Lawrence.
“We did not realise this at the time, but Jennifer Lawrence really wanted to play Serena and auditioned,” Gossip Girl creator Josh Schwartz recently revealed to Vulture. “This story came to us secondhand, but we were told she definitely auditioned and was bummed to not get it.”
Schwartz may have watched Lawrence’s audition tape, but he can’t recall. “We can’t remember if we saw it or not. It was 10 years ago, and she would’ve been how old, 15?” he told the publication.
Sounds like a line that could have come straight out of the mouth of Blair Waldorf.
