Ivanka Trump has a new role in the White House, and it’s probably good news for the public.
She announced on Wednesday in the US that she would be taking an official role in Donald Trump’s administration as an unpaid employee in the White House.
ABC News reports this choice was likely made in response to ethics experts who were critical of her serving the White House informally, as it meant that she was serving President Trump without any restrictions or regulations put on her.

The first daughter made an official announcement, addressing these concerns.
She said she had “heard the concerns some have with my advising the President in my personal capacity”, adding that she had been “working in good faith with the White House counsel and my personal counsel to address the unprecedented nature of my role.”
The response has been fairly positive so far to her appointment, with ethics counsellor Norman Eisen saying, “for a change in what has largely been an ethics disaster, the White House came to their senses”.

Watchdog group Democracy 21 has also been positive about her appointment, with the president Fred Wertheimer releasing a statement about the decision.
“Democracy 21 praises Ms Trump for her decision, which recognises that it would have been wrong for her to function as a White House employee and not be subject to the same rules that apply to other White House employees,” the statement read.
It’s definitely good news for the US that Ivanka Trump is concerned with ethics standards, and it will be interesting to see how she approaches the role.
