The result to the US presidential election has shocked and terrified the world – particularly minority groups who fear for what a Trump presidency will mean for them.
Already, horrific events have been reported in the US reporting cases of racist and sexist behaviour straight after the result of the election was announced.
In fact, Independent reports that police are investigating a wave of hate crimes against ethnic minorities and the Muslim community in the 24 hours after Trump’s victory.
Examples of this include a robbery of a Muslim student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and in a separate incident, a Muslim woman having her hijab ripped off by a stranger, who said: “This is not allowed anymore, so go hang yourself with it around your neck not on your head.”
People have also taken to social media to share their stories of hate crimes.
