Alicia Keys famously decided to stop wearing makeup last year, declaring that she didn’t want to ‘cover up’ anymore.
Her face has gone au natural on the red carpet, magazine covers, her album cover and on TV as a judge on The Voice.
She even wrote in Lenny Letter that doing a photoshoot after she’d come from the gym was the “strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful” she’d ever felt.

But now she’s decided to be less strict on her no makeup rule. She spoke to Allure Magazine about this decision, appearing on the cover, and in a number of makeup looks for the spread.
“I’m not a slave to makeup,” she said. “I’m not a slave to not wearing makeup either. I get to choose at [any] given moment. That’s my right.”

She posted a behind the scenes look of the photo shoot, and can be seen wearing teal eyeshadow, but mostly goes au natural again.
She’s got a point – it is a woman’s right to choose, but we think it’s great that she’s been normalising the no makeup look!
