Here’s Your First Look At Sherlock Season 4

The game is well and truly afoot, and things are elementary, dear… oh you know the drill

Yesterday was Benedict Cumberbatch’s 40th birthday, and like the amazing human that he is, he gifted the world with a first look at the highly-anticipated, eagerly-awaited-with-breath-that-is-bated season four of his cult favourite TV show Sherlock.

It’s been a long time between drinks for Sherlock fans. Sure, the Cumberbatch thirst was abated with a special cinematic release Christmas episode in January this year (tickets sold: 190,000), but in terms of the actual miniseries itself, there have been no new episodes since 2014. That’s a long time, especially considering the series is the BBC’s most watched TV show in the history of the network.

But what we do know is this: the principle cast members are returning, which means that Sherlock isn’t likely to have replaced Martin Freeman’s beloved Watson with a bloodhound. There’ll be a new villain: British character actor Toby Jones, who has given good evil before in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Captain America.

And a new character – potential love interest? – will debut, played by Sian Brooke, who previously starred opposite your boyfriend Cumberbatch in last year’s theatre production of Hamlet. The stories will not be based on popular Sir Arthur Conan Doyle mysteries, but will most likely draw their storylines from lesser known short stories.

But, sad news, the fourth series of the show is likely to be its last, with the 40-year-old thinking woman’s pinup hoping to pursue his burgeoning cinematic career over television pursuits.

“I don’t know how long we can keep it going,” co-creator Stephen Moffatt told British newspaper The Telegraph. “I’m personally willing but I’m hardly the main draw. I would be moderately surprised if this was the last time we ever made this show. But it absolutely could be.”
