The 2017 Grammy Awards were filled with unforgettable moments, like Adele refusing to accept her award for best album, Beyonce appearing as an actual goddess on stage, andJames Cordenโs epic cut-out car karaoke.
But there were lots of politically charged moments you might have missed. Here are just a few of our favouritesโฆ
1. Beyonceโs acceptance speech
When Beyonce won the Grammy for Best Urban Album, she spoke out in her acceptance speech about racism and the future of our children. Given that there is speculation that Beyonce was suffering from racial snubbing by missing out on Album Of The Year, her speech is all the more important.
โItโs important to me to show images to my children that reflect their beauty so they can grow up in a world where they look in the mirror, first through their own families, as well as the news, the Super Bowl, the Olympics, the White House, and the Grammys, and see themselves, and have no doubt that theyโre beautiful, intelligent, and capable,โ she said. โThis is something I want for every child of every race.โ
2. James Cordenโs not-so-subtle dig at Trump
When James Corden entered the room, he โaccidentallyโ fell down some stairs. He began rapping, and poked fun at Trump.
โLive it all up because this is the best and with President Trump we donโt know what comes next,โ he said.
The stairs may also have been a reference to Trumps supposed โfear of stairsโ.
3. Selena Gomezโs after-party outfit
Selena Gomez hit up the after-party in this Hillary Clinton inspired โNasty Womanโ jacket, which we absolutely love.
4. Paris Jacksonโs statement about the environment
Paris Jackson used her introduction to speak out against an issue she is passionate about โ the Dakota Access Pipeline being built.
โWe can really use this excitement at a Pipeline protest, guys,โ Jackson said while presenting a performance by The Weeknd and Daft Punk. โ#NoDAPL.โ
