Gigi Hadid Opens Up About Her Secret Health Battle

And how she struggled to prepare for the Victoria's Secret Show

Dec 9, 2016  Gigi Hadid, the 2016 model of the year, not only gets a lot of praise and compliments but she has faced a lot of scrutiny about her appearance not only for being too big but also for being too small.

The supermodel turned heads walking the Victoriaโ€™s Secret runway last week, but has revealed that keeping her body in shape for the show wasnโ€™t as simple as a good diet and exercise.

In a recent panel for Reebokโ€™s #PerfectNever campaign she revealed that she suffers from an autoimmune disease. โ€œMy metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimotoโ€™s disease.โ€

Hashimotoโ€™s disease is where the thyroid gland (which controls your metabolism) is either too active and burns everything or sluggish and not active enough. Symptoms of the disease include weight fluctuation, sluggishness, depression, muscle weakness and joint pain.

โ€œItโ€™s been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didnโ€™t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then thatโ€™s good.โ€

The 21-year-old also revealed that her least favourite workout move are squats! โ€œTheyโ€™re painful, and you have to do so many for them to work. Recently for the VS show, I put a sticky note in my kitchen, and every time I walked past the squats sticky note, I had to do 15 squats. Its a good trick because it reminds you that you have to have integrity with yourself. No one else is watching, so I have to just do it for myself.โ€
