All we could think about for the past few weeks was dragons, the Night King and whether Jon Snow and Daenerys would get it on. But now that Game of Thrones has ended for another season, here are five binge-worthy shows to fill the GoT sized hole in your life.
Just don’t blame us if you don’t get any sleep.
1. Game Revealed
To slowly ween you off Game of Thrones, we suggest a little more Game of Thrones. Game Revealed is a seven-part HBO series that breaks down the creation of each episode of season seven, with exclusive interviews with the cast and access to the GoT set. Superfans can watch the first episode on Youtube here.
2. Ozark
Ozark is a slow-burn drug drama about a Chicago financial adviser (played by Jason Bateman), who moves his family to Missouri after dealings with a cartel turn sour. Part Breaking Bad, part Bloodline, you can stream the first season on Netflix.
3. Top of the Lake: China Girl
Staring The Handmaid’s Tale’s Elisabeth Moss, Top of the Lake: China Girl is a dark crime mystery following the case of a young sex worker whose body surfaces in a suitcase on Bondi beach. If you weren’t sold already, the Jane Campion helmed show sees Nicole Kidman return to the small screen—à la Big Little Lies—in a knockout role. It airs on Foxtel’s BBC First, at 8.30pm on Sundays.
4. Narcos
Narcos addicts can get their fix from September 1 when season three hits Netflix. The trailer for the new series shows Pablo Escobar’s empire in ruins and the shady operations of another cartel on the rise. As the synopsis promises: “Now that the bloody hunt for Pablo Escobar has ended, the DEA turns its attention to the richest drug trafficking organization in the world: the Cali Cartel.” We’re hooked.
5. Search Party
Search Party not only boasts a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but kept this writer awake until 4am binge-watching the entire series. Of the entire list, this is a personal favourite. Billed as Girls meets Nancy Drew, the comedy-drama follows a group of self-absorbed Brooklyn millennials who search for their missing college friend. It’s both hilariously funny (thanks to Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat and the cast) plys a compelling mystery, with each episode ending on a cliffhanger.
