Winter has well and truly hit Westeros but the next season of Game of Thrones is way off, people.
HBO has confirmed that the eighth, and final, season of the hit series won’t be on our screens until 2019.
Worse yet, it’ll only consist of six episodes. But these episodes are likely to be very long, which might make the wait a bit more worthwhile.
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, previously told Variety that production on season eight began last October and is set to run into the middle of 2018.
Last season left us with a cliffhanger of epic proportions and there are a few whispers about what the next instalment will hold.
Sophie gave fans a glimpse at how her character’s story will pan out saying, “At the end of last season, she felt that she had everything set up. She had her family back together. They were in control of the North again.”
“This season, there’s a new threat, and all of a sudden she finds herself somewhat back in the deep end. And without Littlefinger, it’s a test for her of whether she can get through it. It’s a big challenge for her, without this master manipulator having her back. This season is more a passionate fight for her than a political, manipulative kind of fight.”
Vanity Fair reports that there will also be a character named Harry Strickland. He’s said to be a member of the Golden Company – an elite group of mercenaries that Euron Greyjoy sought out on behalf of Cersei Lannister. And we’ve probably seen the last of poor Meera Reed who had the thankless task of dragging Bran around for the last few seasons.
In the meantime…
