After 17 teenagers were mowed down in their classrooms by a former student armed with an AR-15, the survivors of the horrific Florida school shooting are organising a national march to demand political action on gun control.
Dubbed March For Our Lives, the main event will take place in Washington on March 24, with organisers hopeful that marches will happen all around American simultaneously, the BBC reports.
“My message for the people in office is this: You’re either with us or against us,” Cameron Kasky, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school and march organiser, told CNN on Sunday morning.
“We are losing our lives while the adults are playing around.”
Over the weekend, protests took place in Fort Lauderdale, close by to Marjory Stoneman Douglas, with students and their families carrying placards bearing a simple message to the country’s decision-makers: “Enough is enough.”
Time reports that one student, Emma Gonzalez, took aim at President Donald Trump over his links to the National Rifle Assocation (NRA).
“If the president wants to come up to me and tell me to my face that it was a terrible tragedy and… how nothing is going to be done about it, I’m going to happily ask him how much money he received from the National Rifle Association,” she told the crowd.
“It doesn’t matter because I already know. Thirty million dollars,” she continued, referring to donations made by the NRA during Trump’s presidential campaign.
Gonzalez has also spoken passionately to Fox News Sunday, news.com.au reports.
“Please stop allowing us to be gunned down in our hallways,” she pleaded.
