Mark Zuckerberg has announced the launch of a new dating app within Facebook, one thatโs designed to foster โreal long-term relationships โ not just hookups.โ
Simply called โDatingโ, according to Wired, the new feature will allow Facebook users to create a separate profile from their existing one, and details of who and when youโre dating wonโt be made public.
โWe want Facebook to be somewhere where you can start meaningful relationships,โ Zuckerberg said. โWeโve designed this with privacy and safety in mind from the beginning.โ
The Guardian reports that the sample profiles presented had some similarities with Tinder.
Designed to mirror the way people interact in real life, the Dating feature will have its own inbox, separate to Facebook Messenger, that only allows users to send text messages, not photos or links.
Facebook will use a unique algorithm to match potential couples, based on โdating preferences, things in common and mutual friendsโ according to Zuckerberg. It wonโt draw from your existing friends list.
Facebook will start testing Dating later this year.
