The musical production was originally expected to debut at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago during their summer 2020, however, has now been postponed to July of 2021. Fans of the movie will have just over a month to catch the musical in Chicago at the CIBC Theatre; running from July 13 to August 15, before it transitions onto Broadway in the Big Apple.

Speaking to Deadline, producer Kevin McCollum explained the reason behind the productions rescheduling – sharing that the team decided they wanted more time to work on the show and confirm theatre locations, physical design, marketing and sales plans.

The Devil Wears Prada musical has been described as a “fabulously fresh makeover” of the original film, and based on the musical’s official summary, it seems like most of the key elements and storyline from the film are being carried over into the stage production.

Just in case you thought this couldn’t get any more fabulous, it has been confirmed that the one and only Elton John will be at the helm of musical composition, along with lyrics by Shaina Taub, a book by Paul Rudnick, music supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo, and direction by Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro.

Beth Leavel and Taylor Iman Jones

Perhaps the most pressing issue of all is the question of who could possibly be cast as Miranda Priestly – a role Meryl Streep won several awards for. It makes complete sense that Tony Award winner Beth Leavel was the obvious choice, with Taylor Iman Jones, who has worked on Broadway productions like Groundhog Day and Head over Heels playing her assistant Andy Sachs.
