Emma Watson – all round awesome human and outspoken feminist – copped a barrage of criticism last week after a photo shoot she did was labeled as hypocritical.

Posing for Vanity Fair and acclaimed fashion photographer Tim Walker, and in one (in a series of beautiful high-fashion shots) the actress was wearing a white crocheted bolero jacket with just a sheer shirt underneath. Shocking.

The photo sparked outrage online, with many critics saying Watson was a “fake feminist”.

British columnist Julia Hartley-Brewer shamed Watson over her “topless” photo, writing: “Feminism, feminism… gender wage gap… why oh why am I not taken seriously… feminism… oh, and here are my tits!”

Well, Emma was having NONE of that.

“It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what a misunderstanding there is of what feminism is,” she said during a to promote her new film, Beauty and the Beast.

“Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with. It’s about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality. I really don’t know what my tits have to do with it.”

And thankfully, there were enough people out there who ‘get it’, and leapt to her defence.
