Emily Ratajkowski Explains What Being ‘Sexy’ Is Like In Hollywood

And how it's affected her career...

Emily Ratajkowski has been best known for her acting work in the risqué Blurred Lines music video with Robin Thicke and a small role in Gone Girl (2014), but she has had more success as a model.

The 24-year-old recently opened up in an interview with London Evening Standard about how having a ‘sexy’ look has affected her opportunities in Hollywood.

“If you’re a sexy actress it’s hard to get serious roles.” Ratajkowski explains. “You get offered the same thing that they’ve seen you in. People are like sheep and they’re like ‘Oh, that’s what she does well.’ What’s so dumb is that women are 50 percent of the population and they want to spend money to see movies where they’re portrayed as three-dimensional characters.”

She also opened up about her nude selfie with Kim Kardashian, and how she responded to tweets from Piers Morgan.

“[He was] talking about the fact Kim is 34 and a mother and that we’re over seeing her in a sexual light, which I had a lot of problems with. He also implied that her husband [Kanye West] was writing her tweets, as if she isn’t capable of writing them herself, which to me is incredibly sexist.”

But this isn’t the first time she’s talked about what her experience has been like as a ‘sexy’ actress – she describes how she has been treated as a girl who went through puberty early in an essay for Lena Dunham’s Lenny, as her dad described her, a ‘baby woman’.

“An older family friend took me aside, separate from the rest of the party: “You need to hide out, a girl like you, keep a low profile.” Whatever that meant. I truly believe he felt he was being protective, helpful even.”
