Dreamworld Tragedy: Husband Held Wife As She Died In His Arms

He dived into the water to try and save her as their daughter was screaming out

Further details have emerged about the moment mother-of-two Kate Goodchild died on the Thunder River Rapid ride along with three others on Tuesday.

Husband, David Goodchild, who had been waiting outside the ride with the coupleโ€™s eight-month-old daughter, reportedly managed to reach his wife, diving into the water to try and rescue her.

Unable to do anything to anything to save her, she died in his arms.

โ€œMy son managed to reach his partner โ€ฆ who died in his arms while their 12-year-old daughter looked on screaming in the background,โ€ Mr Goodchildโ€™s mother, Gillian Turner told media in a statement.

โ€œMy son and Kate were childhood sweethearts and she will be missed incredibly.

โ€œKate is irreplaceable, she is not only going to be missed by my son and grand-daughters but by a lot of people.โ€

Ms Turner said the families involved were โ€œdevastated and inconsolableโ€.

Ebony Goodchild, the coupleโ€™s 12-year-old daughter who miraculously survived the horror accident is said to be heartbroken and blaming herself for her motherโ€™s death.

A family friend says she is struggling to cope and is โ€œjust terribleโ€ after convincing her mother to go on the ride with her. 

โ€œThis is something that will be with her for life โ€” it will take a long time for her to be okay,โ€ she tells News.com.au.

โ€œSheโ€™s blaming herself because she wanted to go on the ride โ€” they didnโ€™t and she insisted. It will be a long road to healing.โ€

Kate Goodchild died in the tragic accident alongside her brother Luke Dorsett, his partner Roozi Araghi and 42-year-old New Zealand mother of two Cindy Low.

Dreamworld were set to re-open its doors for a memorial service today but plans have been placed on hold while police continue their investigations.

 โ€œDreamworld has been advised by Queensland Police Services (QPS) that we are unable to proceed with tomorrowโ€™s memorial service as planned,โ€ the park said in a statement , according to News.com.au

โ€œObviously the integrity of the Coronial Investigation is of paramount importance and postponing the service will give QPS the time it needs to conduct this investigation.

โ€œWe will provide an update to the media on Monday with regard to the memorial service and re-opening of the Park.โ€
