Just when you think nothing Donald Trump can say can shock us anymore, he goes and does this.
Taking to the stage at a rally in North Carolina overnight the US Presidential Candidate suggesting that his supporters could stop rival Hillary Clinton by alluding to their constitutional right to bear arms.
โHillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish the second amendment by the way, and if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks. Although the second amendment people, maybe there is, I dunno,โ he said.
The second amended is โthe right of the people to keep and bear Armsโ.
The remark sparked immediate backlash, both online and from a number of high-profile people including former CIA director Michael Hayden: โIf someone said that outside the hall, theyโd be in a police wagon being questioned by Secret Service.โ
However the Trump campaign issued a own statement to clarify the Republican candidateโs remarks.
โItโs called the power of unification โ 2nd Amendment people have amazing spirit and are tremendously unified, which gives them great political power,โ senior Trump communications advisor Jason Miller said. โAnd this year, they will be voting in record numbers, and it wonโt be for Hillary Clinton, it will be for Donald Trump.โ
This is not the first time the Trump administration have come under fire for suggesting violence. In July Al Baldasaro, Trumpโs adviser on veteransโ issues, made headlines when he suggested Clinton should be out before a firing squad over her email scandal on โThe Kuhner Reportโ radio show.
โThis whole thing disgusts me, Hillary Clinton should be put in the firing line and shot for treason.โ
Clintonโs team have responded to the comments, with Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook blasting Trump for using โdangerousโ language.
โThis is simple โ what Trump is saying is dangerous. A person running for President of the United States should not suggest violence in any way,โ he said in a statement.
Hillary also took to Twitter to comment: โA person seeking to be the President of the United States should not suggest violence in any way.โ
