Two weeks after it was reported that Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart had ended their relationship of two years, Cole has broken his silence on what’s really going on. Of course, we’ve already had both him and Lili troll us by making jokes about ‘reliable sources’ and Lili’s love poem for Cole on his birthday, but this is the first time either of them has seriously spoken about the manic media attention recently.
While at Variety‘s Power of Young Hollywood issue party, Entertainment Tonight asked the actor whether he was annoyed by the reports. “Incredibly,” he joked, before getting more serious: “No, I don’t care. That’s the nature of our industry. I think you have to poke fun of it a little bit. It’s kind of something you sign up for, but as long as can keep it light and fun, it’s all good.”
Cole also addressed whether he was planning on writing Lili a poem on her birthday, as she did for his three days ago. “I’m not a poet. I do not write. I’ll figure out something beautiful,” he said.
In the couple’s recent joint magazine cover for W, Lili revealed that it was Cole who initially encouraged her to keep their relationship away from the spotlight. “At first, I didn’t want things private,” Reinhart said.
“Now that I’m X amount of years in, I do appreciate the privacy we have, that he’s encouraged me to take. No one knows how long we’ve been together, and no one will until we’re ready to say it. No one knows how we fell in love, except for our close friends and us. It’s really special.”
