The Daily Telegraph reports that a young girl, known only as โ€œGirl Xโ€, was reportedly raped multiple times by two youth workers over a five-month period. The youth workers were allegedly having sex with her during โ€œsleepover shiftsโ€.

DNA evidence later all but proved the identity of her alleged attacker. The odds of the youth worker being innocent were estimated to be โ€œ100 billion to oneโ€.

However, the case was never fully prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). And it was only after the youth worker applied for a Working With Children Check that the horrific details of the case emerged.

The move has been described as โ€œbeyond disturbingโ€ by Family and Community Services Minister Brad Hazzard who has ordered the DPP to review evidence to โ€œensure justice prevailsโ€, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The girl has subsequently died (and the cause of her death is unknown).  The case was dropped after her death.
