All mums-to-be would agree that growing a tiny human in your belly can wreak havoc on the rest of your body. From vivid dreams to flakey toe-nails, the list of weird side effects is seemingly endless. But thereโs one in particular that tops the lot and Chrissy Teigen knows it well:
Pregnancy nose.
Earlier this week, the model and TV host (whoโs currently expecting her second child) took to Twitter to share a clip of herself laughing at hubby John Legendโs awkward dance moves.
But after taking a second look at the video, the 32-year-old noticed her nose had completely changed shape. Thatโs when she followed up with a secondary post:
As it turns out, localised facial swelling is actually pretty common. Just ask all the pregnant women who flooded Chrissyโs account to tell her they could relate.
So, now that we know itโs normal. Why does it actually occur?
โMany women find their nose becomes blocked up and runny, and sometimes bleeds for no obvious reason,โ the Womenโs and Childrenโs Health Network explain on their website. โThis is probably because of pregnancy hormones, which cause the delicate lining of the nose to soften and swell. It can start in the first few months, and last until your baby is born.โ
Thankfully though there are treatments that can help
โMany over the counter cold medicines are not suitable to use during pregnancy but some nasal spray products may be useful (check with your pharmacist to see which are best during pregnancy,โ they add. โSaline drops or sprays with do not have any other chemicals in them are usually fine. Steam inhalations may help.โ
