Chilling details have emerged about the vicious attack that left Mia Ayliffe-Chung dead and Thomas Jackson fighting for his life.
John Norris, the owner of Shelly’s Backpackers hostel in Home Hill has revealed the horror that unfolded just after 11pm.

“[Guests] were told to get into the room and lock themselves there.”
Mia Mayliffe-Chung was fatally stabbed by Smail Ayad while Thomas Jackson was taken to hospital in critical condition.

“Some people were lucky, and some were unlucky, and that was Mia and Tom,” added Norris, who has run the hostel for over 15 years.
Manager Grant Shultz also sufferd stab wounds and was taken to hospital and a dog was also killed in the attacked.
Police have charged 29-year-old Smail Ayad with murder, two counts of attempted murder and serious animal cruelty.
He is due to appear in back court in October.
