Cassie Sainsbury has been charged with six years inside a Colombian prison after being found with 6kgs of cocaine in her suitcase in April.
The 22-year-old Adelaide-born woman initially said the drugs found in her luggage were planted there without her knowledge, but since admitted to drug trafficking as part of a plea deal, ABC reports.
Sainsbury’s sister told Channel 7 in Adelaide the plea deal was the best outcome Cassie and her family could have hoped for.
But Kahla Sainsbury said her sister’s life would never be the same again.
“I don’t think there’s be much she can do when she comes back home,” she said as reported by The Australian.
It’s going to be hard for her to get a job. It’s going to be hard for her to do anything, because she’s going to be labelled as ‘Cocaine Cassie’.”
