Carrie Bickmore has shared exciting news with fans on social media, revealing her wonderful charity โCarrieโs Beanies 4 Brain Cancerโ has hit an impressive milestone.
The Project host took to Twitter to reveal that her charity beanies have smashed the original $1-million goal, and raised over $4.5-million for brain cancer research.
โ4.5 mil raised so far,โ she wrote. โTHANKYOU to all whoโve supported. Itโs a drop in the ocean for whatโs needed but weโll keep going #beatbraincancer.โ
Carrie founded the company following her 2015 Logies Acceptance speech, in which she wore a blue beanie and delivered a harrowing speech about the disease, which claimed the life of her husband Greg Lange in 2010.
โEvery five hours in Australia someone is diagnosed with brain cancer and eight out of 10 people who are diagnosed will die,โ she said in her moving speech. โEveryone thinks itโs this rare form of cancer. Itโs not. It kills more people under 40 than any other cancer. It kills more kids than any other disease. And it receives next to no funding, which is ludicrous.โ
Shortly after her speech, Carrie launched โBeanies 4 Brain Canerโ with the first huge fundraiser being the Brainbeats2015 concert, featuring Ed Sheeran and Passenger.
In January 2016, Carrie revealed the organisation had surpassed the $1million goal.
Later in 2016, Carrieโs first batch of 25,000 beanies went on sale and were quickly snapped up by celebrities and supporters alike. In 2017, they sold even more beanies in the new designs with only a handful of the gorgeous hats currently left for sale.
Congratulations on your impressive milestone, Carrie, we couldnโt be prouder of the amazing work youโre doing.
