A Brazillian football player who tragically died in the Colombian plane crash that killed 71 people including all but two members of the Chapecoense football team, used his final moments to make a heartbreaking phone call to his wife.
Marcos Danilo reportedly called his wife from his hospital bed in Medellin, Colombia before tragically passing away from injuries suffered in the horrific crash.
The 31-year-old father-of-one was just one of a few survivors of the crash but unfortunately his injuries were too severe and he died shortly after being admitted to hospital.
His death brought the toll to 71, leaving only six survivors.
The plane was bringing the Chapecoense football team to the final Copa Sudamericana (the equivalent of the UEFA Europa League tournament), which was scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
They were said to be having a “fairytale season” and this was they first time they had made the finals since the 1970s. A video has since gone viral of the team celebrating ahead of the highly-anticipated match.
