‘Big Little Lies’ Won’t Return For A Third Series, Says Liane Moriarty

The end is near

As one of the biggest (and best, we might add) TV shows of recent history, there’s no question fans of Big Little Lies have been hoping the series will go on forever, Law & Order style. But according to the author of the original book, Liane Moriarty it won’t be.

In a new interview, Moriarty has confirmed the show will stop at season two, which is being released this month — although her response doesn’t fully rule it out.

“I feel like this will be it… it was only meant to be one season. My feeling is that this will probably be it,” she told news.com.au.

However, it won’t be the end of the author’s relationship with Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, who have both signed on to televise Moriarty’s other novels, including Truly Madly Guilty and Nine Perfect Strangers, which are being produced right now.

As for the second season, Moriarty has confirmed she doesn’t really know what will happen. According to the author, once she submitted the loose plot line she left the production in the hands of the crew — so she’s not sure which parts will be followed, something she said she wanted to happen.

“I’ve seen episode one but I haven’t seen anything else. I said I didn’t want to see the scripts, I prefer to just see it as a viewer,” she said.

Big Little Lies season two will premiere in Australia on June 9 on HBO.
