When it comes to privacy, celebrities have it tough. From not being able to walk down the street alone to having to shut down entire restaurants for dinner reservations, the life of an A-lister is sometimes less glamorous than we like to envision it. But up there with the worst parts of fame is people hacking into private devices and sharing personal things such as photos and videos. When it happened to Jennifer Lawrence in 2014, the actress called the violation a “sex crime” and “absolutely disgusting.” Kate Upton’s rep called a similar event that year “an outrageous violation of Upton’s privacy”. Now, actress Bella Thorne is taking matters into her own hands.
After a male hacker gained access to her phone and tried to blackmail and “threaten” the 21-year-old, Thorne decided to upload numerous topless photos of herself to her social media, writing that after 24 hours of dealing with threats, she was taking her power back.
“For the last 24 hours I have been threatened with my own nudes. I feel gross, I feel watched, I feel someone has taken something from me that I only wanted one special person to see,” she wrote alongside the images.
“For too long I let a man take advantage of me over and over and I’m fucking sick of it. I’m putting this out because it’s my decision. Now you don’t get to take yet another thing from me. I can sleep better knowing I took my power back. You can’t control my life, you never will,” she continued.
Thorne ended her post with, “Oh yea [sic], the fbi will be at your house shortly.”
How’s that for showing a hacker who’s boss?
