Beauty and the Beast is one of Disney’s most beloved fairy tale movies, and most of the world can’t contain their excitement for the remake featuring Emma Watson!
However, a bunch of extreme conservatives from the US and Russia are calling for the movie to be banned, after Disney recently announced that the movie would feature an openly gay character.
Because of course, the gay character is the unnatural one in a story about a woman falling in love with an animal.

The character is Gaston’s sidekick Lefou, who is being played by Josh Gad, and director Bill Condon has said he has a “wonderful gay moment” in the film.
A Russian MP has voiced fears that Disney is pushing ‘gay propaganda’, and has called for a ban on the film in Russia.
The Guardian reports Vitaly Milonov took action by writing to the culture minister, Vladimir Medinsky, and asking him to make a move on the ban.
“In this situation, society cannot look on silently at what movie distributors are offering under the guise of a children’s tale – the obvious, barefaced, unscrupulous propaganda of sin and perverted sexual relations,” Milonov said.

Medinsky has since told BBC that he will be assessing the movie “according to the law” and making a call from there.
Meanwhile, in the US, a theatre in Alabama has decided they will not be screening the film. Henagar Drive-In Theatre took to Facebook to announce their decision in a post.
“It is with great sorrow that I have to tell our customers that we will not be showing ‘Beauty and the Beast,'” the post read.
The reason they gave is because “when companies continually force their views on us we have to take a stand.”
The decision has been met with outrage, and the theatre has since deleted their Facebook page.
Beauty and the Beast hits Australian cinemas on March 23.
