Bana Alabed Describes The Night Her House Was Bombed

She has become the face of the tragedy in Aleppo

Amongst the tragedy gripping Aleppo, a seven-year-old girl has become the unlikely hero that the world needs, bringing the plight of its victims to the world through as she live-Tweeted her experience.

Bana Alabed has amassed 365,0000 followers on Twitter (thanks to the help of her mother Fatemah, a teacher) and countless people around the globe who have been gripped by her incredibly powerful story.

Alabad and her mother have now been safely evacuated from the war-torn region and she has given her first interview to the BBC.

โ€œWe were very scared. We used to play in the house which was suddenly bombed,โ€ she told interviewer Orla Guerin.

โ€œWe were really scared, we changed location, went to the basement, we suffocated because of the heavy smoke from the rubble.

โ€œWhen our house was bombed, we managed to escape from under the rubble safely but we nearly died, we had to face falling rocks and heavy suffocating smoke.โ€

Alabad has also since met with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.

โ€œThank you for supporting the children of Aleppo and help us to get out from war. I love you,โ€ she told the President according to CNN.
