Ariana Grande has taken to Instagram to defend her ex-fiance, Pete Davidson, after the SNL comedian revealed that online trolls had been bullying him to the point of encouraging him to kill himself.
In a message posted to Instagram, Davidson wrote about his history with Borderline Personality Disorder and suicidal thoughts, saying that he was open about his struggles in the hope that it would help others like himself. Davidson wrote, “I’m trying to understand how when something happens to a guy the whole entire world just trashes him without any facts or frame of reference.
“No matter how hard the internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won’t. I’m upset to even have to say this,” he wrote.
In the hours after his emotional post, celebrities such as Emily Ratajkowski, Orlando Bloom, Cecily Strong and Queer Eye star Tan France commented with messages of support, before Ariana Grande wrote a long message in response.
On her Instagram Stories, the thank u, next singer shared Davidson’s post, writing alongside it: “I know u already know this but I feel I need to remind my fans to please be gentler with others,” she wrote. “I really don’t endorse anything but forgiveness and positivity. I care deeply about pete and his health.”
She continued: “I’m asking you to please be gentler with others, even on the internet. I’ve learned thru my own mistakes not to be reactive on socials so I do understand,” Grande continued. “but you truly don’t know what anybody is experiencing ever. regardless of what they choose to display on social media or how they may appear in public. I can promise u that.”
“So please let whatever point you’re trying to make go. I will always have irrevocable love for him and if you’ve gotten any other impression from my recent work, you might have missed the point,” she finished.
