Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a decision to handle their divorce privately.

Jolie, 41, and Pitt, 52, have reached a joint statement about the issue, obtained by PEOPLE.

โ€œThe parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues,โ€ reads the statement.

โ€œThe parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification.โ€

The actors, who are parents to Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8, currently have a voluntary temporary custody agreement in place, allowing Pitt to have supervised visitations with their children.

The pair filed for divorce in September 2016.

The statement comes after Bradโ€™s surprise appearance at yesterdayโ€™s Golden Globe awards.
