The ABC is interviewing people with unusual love stories on a new Story Hunters series on modern love.
Much like the storyline of the Ryan Gosling movie, Lars And The Real Girl (2007), the latest story interviews Murray, an Australian man who has fallen in love with a sex doll.
After his third divorce, Murray was feeling lonely and depressed, however he found comfort in an emotional connection with sex dolls.
“If one had a complete choice, you’d rather have a real woman,” Murray says. “But that’s not always available to people.”
He explains that though there are thousands of doll owners out there, not everyone has experienced the same kind of connection as him.
“Some think many of the things I’ve been saying are absolutely ridiculous.” he says. “For them, they are just masturbatory tools.”
When asked if her loved his doll, who he calls Noni, he said that in a human context, the answer would be ‘no’. But in other contexts he would.
“I am alone, but I’m not lonely. And in that context… yes, I love her. For that.”
