Amy Winehouse is one of the world’s most memorable British artists, creating global top hits and winning six Grammy Awards, all the while struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and an eating disorder.
The singer died from alcohol poisoning in 2011 at only 27 years old.
Now her father, Mitch Winehouse, has revealed he is considering creating a musical about his late daughter’s life, reports Harper’s Bazaar UK.
The former taxi driver was somewhat disgraced in Asif Kapadia’s acclaimed documentary, Amy, and the musical will give the Winehouse family a chance to tell her story from their point of view.
“It would be something for the West End. We want to do something that remembers Amy for what she was, there’s so much more to her than just the drugs and the alcohol,” Mr Winehouse told The Sun.
There is currently no confirmed release date, but according to Mitch’s description, the project could already be underway.
