I Feel Pretty actress Amy Schumer has spoken of losing her virginity through date rape. During a deeply personal interview with Oprah, Schumer reveals her boyfriend at the time had non-consensual sex with her while she was asleep.
Speaking about her experience, Schumer deemed it “grey-area rape,” News Day reports.
“In my standup, I used to talk about, it called it ‘grape’ – grey-area rape,” she explained, adding that when young girls are taught about rape, “It’s about a guy popping out of a bush… they don’t say it’s probably gonna be a guy you know really well. It could be your husband. It could be your friend.”
“And so… when that happens to you, you say, ‘ok, well, this isn’t someone I want to see rotting in a jail cell, but what he did to me was wrong. And I didn’t consent. And for me, I lost my virginity while I was asleep and that’s not okay.”
Schumer went on to reveal how her boyfriend – now ex-boyfriend – responded, news.com.au reports. “The first thing he said was,’ I thought you knew,’” she recalls. “He was my boyfriend. I loved him. I had to comfort him. I also felt really angry… I felt really angry at him, and it’s a rage that has stayed with me.”
Schumer is now married to celebrity chef Chris Fischer. The couple tied the knot in an intimate Malibu ceremony in February this year.
