Alfie Evans' parents lose latest legal battle for sick son

The parents of Alfie Evans, the 23-month-old boy who suffers chronic seizures as a result of a mystery degenerative brain disease, have lost another legal battle: this time, the chance to send their son to Rome to receive treatment.

The court ruled against their case in London yesterday, the BBC reports, and rejected a request for it to go back to the Supreme Court.

Medical specialists at Alder Hey children’s hospital, where Alfie is being kept on life support, have already deemed further treatment futile and recommended that life support should be turned off, 9 News reports.

However, Alfie’s parents are determined to keep fighting. “We are never going to back down. We will keep fighting all the way. We will never give up on you, Alfie,” father Tom Evans, 21, said after the ruling.
