On Monday night, tennis rivals Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams went head-to-head in the first round of the US Open, in which Williams came out on top in straight sets. But while it was all going down on the court, one of the biggest fashion trolls of history was happening in the stands. Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, seemingly took aim at Sharapova with a simple vintage t-shirt, leading Twitter to nickname him the ‘Shade King’.

To break this down, Ohanian was wearing a D.A.R.E. tee under his jacket, the signature script of the program’s logo just peeking out. For those that have followed tennis since Sharapova and Williams’ early days will know that the Russian tennis star was temporarily banned from the sport for taking meldonium. For context, in the 90s the shirts were made to support the educational initiative formally known as Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

So, while Ohanian’s “Drug Abuse Resistance Education” shirt could have just been a throwback to the greatest hits of his fifth-grade wardrobe, it’s much more likely some advanced trolling.

Social media were quick to catch on.

Back in 2016, Maria received a two-year ban from tennis for using performance-enhancing drugs to keep up with Serena on the court. Maria’s tennis ban allegedly began on January 26, 2016—the same day that she failed a drug test after losing to Serena in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
