Steven Pitt, a forensic psychiatrist based in Arizona, told People that it all comes down to a piece of fruit – a pineapple – found in her stomach.

After JonBenet was found dead in her basement on Christmas Day, 1996, the 6-year-old’s autopsy showed that the fruit hadn’t had time to digest properly. However JonBenet’s mother said she hadn’t had any pineapple that day.

Fingerprints have been found on the bowl used to give JonBenet the pineapple belonging to the mother, suggesting she is being untruthful.

“It has been solved,” Pitt said. “I think in the minds of lots of people, the case is solved. The question is, do I think anyone will ever be criminally charged? No.”
