New trigger warnings have been added to the hit Netflix series 13 Reasons Why due to its controversial scenes of suicide and sexual assault.
Rated TV-MA, the fictional series recounts the details leading to the suicide of the fictional series’ 17-year-old protagonist, in 13 haunting episodes.

The subject material is deemed so sensitive that schools have issued warnings to parents and school psychologists have expressed “grave concern” about a possible snowball effect, according to Good Housekeeping.
In response to the backlash, Netflix issued a statement outlining the implementation of an “additional viewer warning card before the first episode as an extra precaution.”
“While many of our members find the show to be a valuable driver for starting an important conversation with their families, we have also heard concern from those who feel the series should carry additional advisories.”
Existing warning cards have also been revised for episodes particularly graphic. They now also include a URL to 13ReasonsWhy.info which holds links to professional organisations that assist those struggling with or confronted by the serious storyline of the show.
A second season still hasn’t been confirmed but we’re guessing producers are currently trying to work out how to successfully portray such sensitive content in a better light.
