Tom Hiddleston’s love life has never been far from a headline, so when he started dating his Broadway co-star Zawe Ashton three years ago, the internet naturally wanted to know more.
But unlike his former famous romances cut short (Taylor Swift, Jessica Chastain and Elizabeth Olsen, to be precise), these two were in it for the long-haul—a ring just cemented that.
In March 2022, PEOPLE confirmed Hiddleston, 41, and Ashton, 37 had decided to get hitched, mere days after the British actors appeared on the red carpet together at the annual BAFTAs in London.
There, they looked just as loved up as they did during their first ever red carpet appearance together—time really does fly when you’re with the ones you love.
So while we’re feeling nostalgic for this fateful Hollywood romance, we thought it paramount to take a look back at their relationship timeline—from Broadway to betrothed.
August 2019: Broadway
Hiddleston and Ashton first met on the set of Broadway production, Betrayal. Of course, anything but betrayal unfolded between the pair, who hit it off immediately.
Funnily enough, real life couple Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz also performed in the play back in 2013—there must be something in that narrative…
August 2019: Tennis
Later that month, Hiddleston and Ashton took their budding romance from the stage to the courts when they were spotted attending the US Open Tennis Grand Slam together.
It was the first inkling to suggest they could be more than just co-stars.
July 2020: Lockdown
When the world went into various states of lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Hiddleston and Ashton stuck together. In July that year, The Sun reported that Zawe had travelled to Atlanta to be with Hiddleston.
A source told the publication, “Their lives are typically very busy, so spending time together while not working has been something they have both embraced. Tom has made a home in Atlanta during lockdown and he is expecting to spend the rest of the year there.”
September 2021: Red carpet
Two years after the dating rumours first emerged, Hiddleston and Ashton finally went red carpet official at the Tony Awards, where the Marvel star was nominated for best leading actor for Betrayal.
December 2021: A Marvel update
Just before Christmas, it was announced that Ashton had scored a role in the universe Hiddleston is most famous for—she’d been cast as a main villain in Captain Marvel 2 starring alongside another Hollywood heavyweight, Brie Larson.
March 2022: The BAFTAs
In another red carpet appearance we didn’t know we needed, Hiddleston and Ashton stepped out glam as ever for the 2022 BAFTAs in London. Multiple pictures of them gazing happily at each other on the red carpet were enough to convince us they were the real deal.
March 2022: Engaged!
And sure enough less than a week after the BAFTAs, the pair’s engagement was revealed.
So with that, we have no doubt they’ll share more red carpet and other public moments together in the months and years to come—all starting with Captain Marvel. We’ll just be over here blissfully watching it unfold.
