Twitter seems to think that Tom Cruise skipped the Oscars to avoid a run-in with his ex-wife and fellow actor, Nicole Kidman.
The actor starred in and produced Top Gun: Maverick, which was nominated for six awards at this year’s Academy Awards, including best film.
With so many nominations, fans were quick to notice the actor’s absence on the red carpet, taking to Twitter to muse whether perhaps the actor was trying to avoid ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
Nicole and Tom were married in 1990, after meeting on the set of the film, Days Of Thunder.
The couple quickly became Hollywood’s ‘it’ couple, going on to adopt a daughter, Isabella Jane in 1992, and a son, Connor, in 1995.
But in 2001, the couple announced their separation, with reps saying “the difficulties inherent in divergent careers which constantly keep them apart,” as the reason.
But fans were quick to question how much of that statement was true, after Nicole was captured in a now-famous series of photographs, leaving her divorce lawyer’s office looking seriously elated. So, more than twenty years later, could there really still be tension between these ex lovers?
According to Twitter: absolutely, with one user jokingly writing, “Tom Cruise will base jump, fly fighter jets, and drive a motorcycle off a cliff, but won’t appear in the same room as Nicole Kidman. Her power.”
And while rumours continue to swirl about these famous exes, according to Entertainment Tonight, Cruise didn’t attend the 95th Academy Awards due to a scheduling conflict, with Tom reportedly in the UK filming for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part II when the ceremony took place.
Nicole certainly seemed un-phased by a potential run in with Tom, stunning on the carpet in a one-shoulder Armani gown, complete with a subtle smokey eye and her signature strawberry blonde locks. She was accompanied by musician husband Keith Urban, with the couple looking loved up as ever as they posed for photos along the red carpet.
Nicole and Keith met in 2005 and were married just a year later in her hometown of Sydney. The couple now share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 14, and Faith Margaret, 12.
