If you haven’t already watched The White Lotus, we strongly suggest you do so at the earliest opportunity.
The HBO show turned out to be one of the network’s biggest releases of 2021 due to its perfect blend of a stellar cast, captivating plot line and gripping, can’t-stop-watching mystery.
But don’t just take our word for it, the show’s 20 Emmy Award nominations speak for themselves.
Plus, the best part of watching the show from start to finish is that there’s more to come—HBO renewed the series for season 2, written by creator Mike White.
Before we get into those details, a quick refresher on the show’s premise: the Nine Perfect Strangers–esque narrative revolves around a group of guests staying at a luxurious Hawaiian resort over a one-week timeline.
But their plan to recoup and relax in the stunning location doesn’t quite go to plan when a greater complexity between the travellers and the hotel’s employees begins to reveal itself.
You can watch the series in Australia via Binge and Foxtel.
With that, we now delve into what season 2 has to offer us—starting with its eerie, quirky, and of course, mysterious trailer (with a dose of ignorance, of course).
What will The White Lotus season 2 be about?
While we can’t fault season one’s impeccable cast list, the second season is set for a sizeable shakeup with an all new lineup of actors.
In a statement from HBO, the network confirmed season 2 would depart from its original setting of Hawaii and, “follow a different group of vacationers as they jet to another White Lotus property and settle in temporarily amongst its inhabitants.”
HBO also revealed that the show won’t actually be taking place in the US at all, rather the ensemble cast of chaotic vacationers will be enjoying the splendours of Sicily. It’s time to get messy in the Mediterranean.
While the season one cast have done and dusted off their time at the White Lotus resort, one holiday-maker is making a highly anticipated return: Jennifer Coolidge’s iconic character Tanya McQuoid.
Who else will be in the cast of The White Lotus season 2?
The second season is set to bring a whole new cast to the forefront of its new, just-as-mysterious plot—but don’t rule out any character crossovers just yet.
“I don’t think you can credibly have [all the same characters from season 1] on the same vacation again. But maybe it could be a Marvel universe type thing, where some of them would come back,” the writer added to TV Line.
Sopranos alum Michael Imperioli will join season 2 as “Dominic Di Grasso, a man travelling with his elderly father and recent college-graduate son”.
Meanwhile, Parks And Recreation alum Aubrey Plaza will play “Harper Spiller, a woman on vacation with her husband and his friends”.
Academy Award-winner F. Murray Abraham (Mythic Quest) and Haley Lu Richardson (Support The Girls). Adam DiMarco (The Magicians) and Tom Hollander (Rev.) will also star.
Abraham will play the role of Imperioli’s father, while DiMarco plays his grandson. Richardson will star as Portia, a woman travelling alongside her boss, while Hollander plays a British man travelling with his friends and nephew.
The Bold Type’s Meghann Fahy, Theo James (Divergent), and Will Sharpe (Landscapers) will also star as series regulars, with Leo Woodall as a recurring guest.
Fahy will star as Daphne Babcock, a woman on vacation with her husband, Cameron (played by James). Sharpe will take on the role of Ethan Spiller (husband of Aubrey Plaza’s character, Harper).
When will The White Lotus season 2 be released?
You no longer have to wait for prime Jennifer Coolidge content because season 2 is available to stream from October 31, 2022, in Australia. All episodes of season 1 are also ready to watch right now.
