The new way to wear winged eyeliner

As seen on Emma Watson, Lily Collins and more

The winged eye is up there with the red lip: one of those never-fail beauty classics every woman can wear.

But while we’ve dabbled in variations of a cherry red pout – think matte, stain and high gloss – the winged eye has remained relatively unchanged. Until now.

Three of our favourite stars have stepped out this week with a dramatic new iteration of the winged eye. Rather than fill in the wing, all have opted for a graphic outline only:

Emma Watson at the LA premiere of Beauty and the Beast.
Lily Collins at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Known as negative space in beauty (and art) circles, the new-look eyeliner is edgy, contemporary and an instant way to update your after-dark make-up without the need for new product (what you will need, however, is a steady hand).

Stick to jet black liquid liner for a fine, bold line – we like YSL Eyeliner Effet Faux Cils Shocking, which happens to be what Zoe is wearing in the above pic, and the Kat Von D Ink Liner in Trooper.
