We’ve been waiting ten years for The Hills revival, and boy, the first episode of the new series did not disappoint.
All your faves were there: Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, Brody Jenner, Justin Bobby and Stephanie Pratt. And Heidi and Spencer were there too, along with newcomers Mischa Barton and Brandon Lee (yes, he’s Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s son).
A lot has changed in the last decade – and a lot hasn’t. Here are six thoughts we had watching the first episode of The Hills: New Beginnings.
1. JUSTIN BOBBY WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO REACH OUT TO AUDRINA PATRIDGE AFTER HER DIVORCE
They were the on-again, off-again couple in the original series, and the chemistry between Audrina Patridge is still there (and totally *not* scripted at all). In the new episode, Audrina reveals Justin Bobby was the first person to reach out to her after news of her messy divorce with Corey Boham broke last year. Over dinner, Justin Bobby admits that he doesn’t think Corey was Audrina’s “soulmate,” saying, “I think you’re just getting started.” Or in other words, “I think this is just the (new) beginning(s).”
2. STEPHANIE PRATT FOUND OUT HER BROTHER WAS HAVING A BABY FROM THE DAILY MAIL
Drama! Stephanie and her brother Spencer have always had a tumultuous relationship (remember when he called her a crazy bitch for crying at a BBQ?). The siblings haven’t had much to do with each other since Stephanie moved to London to be in Made In Chelsea, and in the first episode of The Hills, she reveals Spencer and Heidi didn’t send her the obligatory pregnancy-test-text-message when they found out they were expecting. Stephanie found out she was going to be an aunty after seeing the headline on a gossip site.
3. SPENCER PRATT HASN’T CHANGED
Once a Pratt, always a Pratt. Spencer is the same-old hummingbird-obsessed, crystal-loving, attention-seeker he has always been. Talking about not getting an invite to Brody Jenner’s Indonesian wedding last year, Pratt says, “I don’t hold grudges. JK, I do.” At least he’s honest. He also drinks out of a wine glass with “Pratt Daddy” embossed on it. And his son Gunner has his own assistant. Gunner is 20-months old.
4. BRODY JENNER IS CONFUSED HIS DAD AND WIFE HAVE THE SAME NAME
In the episode, we learn Brody Jenner had been with his girlfriend Kaitlynn for four-and-a-half years when his dad came out as transgender and revealed she wanted to be called Caitlyn. When Brody married Kaitlynn in the aforementioned Indonesian wedding, she became Kaitlynn Jenner, which makes booking dinner reservations in LA very interesting. Talking about having two K/Caitlyns in his life, Jenner says, “It’s a wild world out there.”
5. THE GIRLS HAVE BEEN THROUGH A LOT
We’ve all read the headlines over the years, but god damn, The Hills women have dealt with a lot. In the first episode, they all open up about their troubles; Audrina breaks down in tears talking about the anxiety she feels dealing with her ex-husband; Stephanie reveals she overdosed while shoplifting and woke up in handcuffs; and Mischa talks about fleeing to New York after a nasty revenge porn case. Here’s hoping their new beginnings are easier on them.
6. PAMELA ANDERSON IS THE BEST AND NEEDS HER OWN TV SHOW
The very best part of The Hills: New Beginnings is undoubtedly Pamela Anderson; Baywatch star, animal rights activist and mum to Brendon Lee. Pamela makes a cameo appearance in the first episode to visit Brendon at his new house, and in her two minutes on screen, we find out she moved to France when Trump was elected, is wicked with a sage stick and doesn’t eat Lucky Charms cereal. We love you Pammy!
The Hills: New Beginnings airs on Tuesdays on MTV.
