While the Queen by all reports is a fan of the hit Netflix series The Crown, Prince Phillip doesn’t give a damn, according to star Matt Smith. So here’s some news that Prince Phillip probably couldn’t care less about, but that we’re stoked for: there’s a new actor tipped to join the The Crown.
As The Daily Mail reports, British actor Hugh Laurie could be joining the lineup as the Duke of Edinburgh after Paul Bettany withdrew from talks to star in the period drama.
58-year-old Laurie, known for his role as the cantankerous Gregory House, his comedic work with Stephen Fry and recent role in The Night Manager, certainly has the acting chops to appear alongside the already announced Olivia Coleman and Helena Bonham Carter.
“Hugh’s name has been swirling around for a long while now and it hasn’t yet stopped – he is the sort of big name that would draw in viewers. He and Olivia were formidable on The Night Manager and bosses of The Crown would love to recreate that,” an insider told Mail Online.
“Other actors have been considered, but Hugh is viewed as the perfect choice.”
