The Taylor Swift universe might be expanding, with new reports revealing the singer might be turning her songs into a “meta-feminist” TV series.
According to The Sun, Swift had a meeting with Succession writer Alice Birch to discuss the possibility of the series.
The possible television series still appears to be in its early stages, with The Sun’s sources revealing the pair are still “throwing around ideas.”
“Taylor is a multi-talented individual and while her love life has given her ten No1 albums, it is also in the early stages of spawning a new TV show,” the source told The Sun.
“She has been introduced to Alice and they have started discussing a possible new screenplay. Taylor is incredibly astute and getting her head into a project like this would be perfect for her.”
The source also described Birch as an “ideal writing partner” for Swift.
“She helped shape Succession character Shiv Roy. Seeing how she moulded this character, who existed in a male-dominated environment, caught Taylor’s eye.”
Naturally, we’re wondering whether the possible series will draw its plotlines from Swift’s songs, and the source seems to suggest that this will likely be the case.
“Taylor’s relationships have inspired some of her biggest songs, many of which have become empowerment anthems.
“This translates easily onto the screen and there are so many threads they can take from it. It is really exciting and something Taylor is looking to branch out into.”
Of course, this means that Taylor’s exes, who have famously inspired many of her songs, may need to duck for cover.
In 2022, Swift revealed she would be writing and directing her first feature film with Searchlight Pictures.
The production company’s presidents, David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield, described the film as an “exciting and new creative journey” in a statement.
“Taylor is a once in a generation artist and storyteller. It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her,” they added.
The company is also behind major films including The Shape Of Water and Nomadland.
Whether this signals a major career change for Swift, or simply an additional role to add to her already successful resume, we’re excited for what’s to come.
