Fans of Bridgerton can breathe a sigh of relief, because one of our favourite characters from season two is headed back to our screens.
At a Netflix and Bridgerton event celebrating South Asian culture, the Regency era show’s star, Simone Ashley, gave fans exactly what they wanted to hear—her character, Kathani “Kate” Sharma, will be returning for season three.
The event, which included guests like Never Have I Ever‘s Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and late-night host Lilly Singh, saw Ashley share that her beloved character would be back as Viscountess Kate Bridgerton in the next season, where she will become the lady of the house.
For Ashley’s character, she revealed that she hopes season three will see Kate and Anthony have more fun, and enjoy each other’s company, now that their secret longing and lusting is no longer secret.
“I’d like to see Kate just let go a bit more and play more,” she told the publication, adding, “I think they both deserve it”.
And while the details of what’s in store for the newly-weds in season three is still unknown, it’s just good to know that the new Viscount and Viscountess of the Bridgerton home will actually be there. (In case you were wondering, yes, we missed the Duke of Hastings.)
In season two, most of the plot was focused around Anthony Bridgerton—played by heartthrob Jonathan Bailey—in his role as the family’s Viscount. But now that he’s happily married, his mother (Lady Violet Bridgerton) will be stepping down from her role as the Viscountess and handing it to the very capable, Kate.
Now that she’s the Viscountess, Ashley confirmed that Kate’s got a lot of stepping up to do. And while she’s used to taking care of her family, becoming a Viscountess is something else entirely.
“She’s got big boots to put on,” Ashley said, adding, “I think she can do it”.
“I want to keep that softness and vulnerability to Kate, for sure, and she can share that with Anthony. I’m just excited for her to have a home and to have a family. I’m excited to see her grow.”
