Sumptuously soft suedes have been seeping their way into fashion zeitgeist of late, and this past Fashion Month has now all but solidified their place.
A sartorial hallmark of the ‘70s, suede has had a makeover for the modern wardrobe. And while our northern hemisphere counterparts are coveting jackets and coats, particularly in rich tans and browns, the material is also taking form in must-have accessories perfect for year-round wear.
At Chloé’s Spring/Summer ’25 runway, Chemena Kamali gave suede jackets and bags in soft, powdery shades her signature Boho twist, while Hermès’ runway collection showcased the materials ability to elevate tonal ensembles through its subtle texture.
Meanwhile, at both Prada and Versace, nods to ‘70s style with classic deep brown suedes were prominent.
On the streets, the style set bravely played with both texture and colour, layering suede on suede in shirts, skirts, jackets and bags. There’s still time to incorporate a suede jacket into your wardrobe before the weather completely warms, or perhaps you’d prefer to invest in suede bags or shoes.
With the Spring/Summer ’25 runways promising we’ll be seeing much more of the material when collections finally make their way into stores, suede pieces will be worthy investments for seasons to come.
