The Sustainable Swap You’re Not Making Yet, According To Activist Montana Lower

The influencer and animal activist shares her top sustainability secret.

Montana Lower’s influence reaches far beyond that of an ordinary social media star.

Amongst the many roles she plays—model, mother, and animal activist—Montana has also made a name for herself as an advocate for planetary wellbeing.

“Conscious living is a core family value we share in our home,” she tells marie claire Australia.

“To us that means living a holistic lifestyle that is self-sustainable, and that extends to considering the environment, economic and social or humanitarian impact in everyday decisions.”

And her attitude toward sustainability doesn’t stop at her family; she also takes her dog George into consideration.

“I was very aware that as humans we are the largest consumers of factory farmed animals and our pets are the second largest.  As a conscious consumer, I wanted to extend our family values to include the whole family – and this includes George,” she says.

Now an ambassador for ethical pet food brand Frontier Pets, Montana ensures her pets are living just as sustainably as the rest of her family.

Better for the planet

When George joined Montana’s family, she wanted to find a way to feed her dog without impacting the planet.

“As I started to research the best diet for dogs, I came across raw food as being biologically appropriate,” she says.

“When I spoke to the team at Frontier Pets, I deep dived into their supply chain and found that all their meat, offal and eggs are sourced from local free-range farmers.

“All their fruit and vegetables are sourced from Australian certified organic growers. Their commitment to a long-term sustainability plan includes carbon neutrality, fully recyclable packaging, and animal welfare, meaning this is a brand where you can vote with your wallet for a better world.

“We considered all these factors when consciously choosing how to feed George.”

A sustainable life

Training as an environmental and civil engineer, Montana has worked on an array of environmental projects—from vertical and rooftop gardens to sustainable garment production in countries like Cambodia.

So, it’s no surprise she was inspired by Frontier Pets’ commitment to sustainability.

“I love that they are taking water out of the shipping system through their innovative freeze-dried process. This process extracts all of the water out of the wet raw product, leaving a highly nutrient-dense food that requires no preservatives,” Montana explains.

“And so far, the brand has invested over five million dollars into sustainable agriculture, so our pets can actually be part of the solution,” she says.

“The more individuals who choose Frontier Pets, the more value there is in the sustainable agriculture system so we may be able to see the end of factory farming in our lifetime.”

Delicious and nutritious

The best part about Frontier Pets dog food (for George, at least) is that each dish provides a healthy, balanced meal for your furry friend.

“The recipe was designed by holistic Veterinarian and animal nutritionist Dr. Kathy Cornack, making sure it’s a healthy, balanced meal for your dog,” the entrepreneur says.

“I just add warm water and let it sit for a minute. The resulting wet food looks exactly like a raw meal, only it smells amazing and fresh. As the freeze-dried process extracts all the water, adding it back in transforms the bowl into a beautiful, nutrient-rich mince for George, and he just loves it,” she says.
