When every bottle of bubbles has been popped and the celebrations come to a close, you’re probably going to want to mark the end of your wedding day by slipping out of your dress and into something a little sexier.
Akin to saying ‘yes’ to the dress or deciding on the perfect pair of shoes, choosing your bridal lingerie is a wedding rite of passage that shouldn’t be overlooked. As you soak up the last hours of your special day together, that last thing you want to do is trade in your gown for a pair of old sweats.
As for whether or not you need to wear all white, Bras N Things Head of Product, Jessica Lauppe-Guy says it’s more than okay to buck tradition.
“I think it’ all about whatever makes you feel special,” she told marie claire Australia.
“A lot of brides lean towards white or a touch of blue as it is symbolic of a bridal look and gives them that quintessential bridal look and feel that you don’t get to wear often!”
While most people assume that ‘bridal lingerie’ needs to be worn underneath your wedding dress, that isn’t always the case.
As Lauppe-Guy explained, it’s all about the style of your dress and your personal taste. So, if you don’t want to wear your special lingerie during the nuptials or reception, you can always whip it out exclusively while on honeymoon.
“In our experience most brides need some kind of solution under their dress and a strapless bra, stick on accessories is most functional,” she explained.
“Especially with the trend towards low plunging necklines, backless and semi sheer gowns these days. However, the reception can often mean a second outfit and some lacey lingerie or the honeymoon is also a key event to buy some special pieces for.”

What underwear should I buy for my wedding night?
Keep things classic with a white lace and satin set. You might want to experiment with silhouettes and accessories that amp up the vibes for your amour. But you don’t have to go crazy. A timeless silk slip and a flattering balconette bra will make for a stunning choice.
Do I have to wear white underwear on my wedding night?
The short answer is no. You can wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. If you do want to lean into the nuptial vibe, white or ivory styles make for an elegant choice. You could also choose blue lingerie as a nod to your “something blue”. But there’s no right or wrong when it comes to choosing underwear and sleepwear as a bride.
