If you weren’t looking to have your romantic spirits crushed right before the holidays, then look away. Selling Sunset‘s unexpected dream couple, Chrishell Stause and Jason Oppenheim, have split after five months together.
In an Instagram statement confirming the split, Stause said it came down to differing views on wanting to start a family.
“Jason was and is my best friend, and other than our ideas for family ultimately not being aligned, the amount of respect and love we have for each other will not change going forward,” she said.
“Men have the luxury of time that women don’t and that’s just the way it goes. All of that being said, navigating this public terrain is difficult and I am just trying my best.
“No one would rather only speak about work related things more than me. But I understand this comes with it and I will always love and be extremely grateful fo the opportunities I have been given.
“Although my initial reaction to a private situation was to not speak on it, sometimes it’s easier to just live transparent because we only get one chance at this life. I very much hope to one day have a family and decisions I make at this point are with that goal in mind. Thank you for the kindness and support to those that understand.
“And thank you to Jason for the most incredible relationship and for consistently being honest with me even when it hurts.”
Stause and Oppenheim, who owns the Los Angeles-based real estate firm The Oppenheim Group with his brother, Brett, confirmed their relationship back in July, when Stause posted a photo of the two while on a romantic trip to Italy.
The photos—which were jam-packed with support by their costars—were captioned, “The JLo effect”. Of course, this served as a direct reference to the first official photos of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck when they rekindled their romance after 17 years.
A month after Stause and Oppenheim made their relationship public, she revealed to E! News that the couple had actually already been dating for a couple of months before their announcement.
“It’s just one of those things. You don’t want to share with everybody and get all their opinions before you really know what it is,” she told the publication.
“We really were really private and secretive for as long as we could until we realised the walls were closing in. People were getting a little savvy to it.
“We made it to a point where we’re really happy to share it because we knew exactly what it was, so it’s all good.”
According to Oppenheim, the real estate broker the pair were already close before they became an item.
“Chrishell and I became close friends and it has developed into an amazing relationship,” Oppenheim told People back in July. “I care about her deeply and we are very happy together.”
Stause also confirmed that their personal relationship didn’t change their professional one, as Oppenheim was and remains her boss.
“I just feel like the work/relationship dynamic,” she told E! News. “It’s not as complicated as people would think because we were best friends before and we work together all the time. It just kind of felt easy.”
As fans of Selling Sunset know, their relationship looks to be the main plot line for their upcoming fifth season. But if the rumours are true, it looks like it may be the only time we’ll see Stause and Oppenheim as an item.
