It’s a debate that Sex And The City fans have had for decades: are you on Team Big or Team Aidan?
And when it came to the revival of the ’90s hit series, And Just Like That…, it looked as if fans didn’t have to choose with both Chris Noth’s ‘Mr Big’ and John Corbett’s ‘Aiden Shaw’, with both seemingly confirmed to star in the series.
Fans of the show would already know that Aidan Shaw was Carrie Bradshaw’s love interest for multiple seasons, but in the lead up to the revival’s premiere, Corbett stated that he would be appearing in the reboot.
He spoke with Page Six in April 2021, claiming that he was “going to do the show” and it was “very exciting” for him.
“I think I might be in quite a few [episodes],” he told the outlet. “I like all those people, they’ve been very nice to me.”
However, as the final episode’s credits rolled, fans noticed that he never appeared in season one.
In an interview, on Watch What Happens Live, Sarah Jessica Parker admitted that John Corbett’s lack of presence in the initial series’ reboot wasn’t an oversight, but on purpose.
“It was fun for him to say that,” Parker told host Andy Cohen.
“He actually reached out very kindly, because he’s nothing if not a gentleman, and apologised for doing that as a joke,” she revealed.
“And then I was like, ‘No, no, no, I mean, it’s a free country, first of all, and second of all, I thought it was kind of delightful and fun’,” she added.
Parker gave the fans the hint that we’ve now had confirmed…that Corbett could be returning for future episodes of And Just Like That.
“Having said that, I think he would be… well I’m not gonna—I mean, yes, all of it is possible. All of it is possible.”
Of course, now we know Aiden will definitely be returning, this little ruse is all the more hilarious.
Aidan was last seen in the Sex And The City universe in the franchise’s hotly-debated second film, when Carried ran into him at a souk in Abu Dhabi. Carrie, who was struggling to accept the normalcy of her marriage with Big, agrees to meet Aidan for dinner. However, it’s there that the two share a kiss and part ways.
We will need to wait and see how this relationship develops in the second season of And Just Like That, which will air from May 23, 2023. It will be especially interesting given that the first season’s final scene hinted that there was more to come with Carrie and her podcast producer, Franklyn.
